Mourning for University Professor Dr. Eckart Schremmer

Prof. Dr. Eckart Schremmer was director of the Institute for Social and Economic History at the University of Heidelberg from 1968 to 2002. He passed away on June 27, 2025, at the age of 91. 

Professor Schremmer was a significant figure in modern economic history, with research focuses including early industrialization in southern Germany and taxation and state finances during industrialization in Europe. From 1989 to 1997 he served as chairman of the Society for Social and Economic History and was a corresponding member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences since 1997.
